Owners/Landlords - When a new landlord becomes the owner of the property

Updated over 6 months ago

1. Setting up an executor

Upon the death of a landlord, an executor will take over their estate until the ownership of the property is transferred to a new party.

The existing landlord record will need to be updated so that it reads 'Executor of Landlord's name'. The contact information for the executor will also have to be entered.

To do so, please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to Owners > View owners/landlords

  2. Locate the landlord in question

  3. Click on the edit pencil icon

  4. Select Disable read-only mode

  5. Update the name and contact detail fields as required

  6. There is an Additional information field within the Emergency contacts tab that can be used to keep a note of the deceased landlord's contact details

  7. Click Update landlord

2. Linking property to new owner

Once the property has fully changed hands, the change of ownership process needs to be completed to reflect this on the system. For guidance on how to complete the change in ownership process, please click here.

If the case is that one of two landlords has passed away and the remaining landlord is now the sole owner (100% ownership) of the property, we would recommend that the change in ownership process is still completed. This ensures that there is a clear record of the management of the property under the joint ownership and a new record of the management under the sole owner.
